A practice of noticing your body, tuning in to your mind, and understanding yourself.
Forty years of consciousness research, turned into daily training — NOMI Institute of Psychology
The Fourth Consciousness
the AI era demands
AI has begun producing answers
faster than humans.
And it is handing back to us
the oldest question of all.
Beyond the ability to get answers —
the power to choose for yourself instead of being led by them.
Driving requires a license.
So does driving the mind.
This license is not a credential that grades knowledge.
It is a new training of consciousness — understanding how your mind moves,
and building the power to choose before automatic reactions take over.
Notice which outside information and bodily signals you are reacting to right now.
Understand the flow of sensation, emotion, feeling and thought — and separate confirmed facts from the interpretations you have added.
See how memory, belief and values shape your present judgement — and examine the premises and limits of the answers AI provides.
Instead of following automatic conclusions, weigh reality against your own standards for living, and choose the direction of your action.
An answer from AI —
accept it, hold it, revise it, or refuse it?
That final decision, and its responsibility,
must return to the human.
Game SFT
Field practice and research are in preparation. Participation details and dates will be announced once confirmed.
The games a child loves become
a classroom for learning their own mind.
Before pulling a child out of a game,
first see what the child is experiencing inside it.
This is not training that forces a child to quit games.
It builds the power to notice the body's signals and emotions while playing —
immersion, winning and losing — and to choose when to stop and when to continue.
Not a child who never plays,
but a child who can choose the game for themselves.
The game goes on — the mind stays awake.
Myounghee Choi holds a PhD in Buddhist Counseling and is the director of the NOMI Institute of Psychology in South Korea. Her work brings together the study of consciousness, counseling, and practical education, drawing on decades of contemplative inquiry and experience working with children, adolescents, and adults.
She developed the Fourth Consciousness as a functional framework for understanding how the conditions and processes shaping our responses become visible to us. Within this framework, the Fourth Consciousness illuminates those processes, while the Third Consciousness examines information, makes judgments, and chooses how to act. Her SFT approach translates this inquiry into opportunities to notice bodily and mental experience, express it, and consider possible responses.
In Who Is Driving Your Mind?, Choi explores a question at the heart of her work: as AI provides more answers, how can people understand their own responses and make considered choices about their lives? The theory began in books, but SFT is completed in people's lives.Forty years of inquiry, completed as daily training.
In Myounghee Choi’s theory, the Fourth Consciousness illuminates the unfolding flow of sensations, emotions, feelings, thoughts and the ego’s interpretations. The ego remains the subject that judges and chooses. SFT brings this understanding into everyday practice.
Answers are everywhere. So why is it still so hard to understand ourselves? Who Is Driving Your Mind? explores the space between reacting automatically and choosing with greater awareness. Planned books on SFT, AI coaching and gaming will carry these questions into everyday life.
Answers are everywhere. So why is it still so hard to understand ourselves?
AI can help us write, plan, and weigh our options. Yet a familiar difficulty remains: we react before we understand what moved us. A passing comment stays with us all day. An emotion becomes a conclusion. Someone else’s recommendation quietly becomes our direction.
Who Is Driving Your Mind? explores the space between reacting automatically and choosing with greater awareness.
Drawing on decades of contemplative inquiry, counseling, and educational practice, Myounghee Choi introduces the Fourth Consciousness—a functional framework for bringing the processes behind our reactions into view. It is not an inner controller that makes decisions for us. It illuminates the sensations, emotions, memories, expectations, and interpretations that influence our judgments, allowing us to examine them alongside the facts of the situation.
This book invites you to explore:
• How bodily sensations, emotions, feelings, thoughts, and reasoning shape experience.
• How past experiences and familiar interpretations influence what we notice and believe.
• Why understanding a reaction and choosing what to do are distinct abilities.
• How AI can support reflection while we retain responsibility for judgment and action.
The aim is not to eliminate emotion or achieve perfect self-control. It is to understand more clearly what is happening within us—and create room for a considered response.

In an age when answers arrive instantly, take time to understand the mind that receives them.
